OSHL: WOMEN'S EDITION
The Old Skool Hockey League kicked off in the fall of 2012 with the main goal of being "a league for everyone".
At that time, it was a league...with a 20-game schedule and playoffs to follow. The main draw was that this was a draft league...and outside of a stick, helmet and gloves...nothing else was required. Your skill level did not matter.
Being a draft league required a bit of a different mindset. No longer are you guaranteed to be linemates with your best buddy...there was a better chance you'd be lining up against them. Games heat up quick when bragging rights are at stake!
After two season of league play, the OSHL shifted to tournament-style. It was an immediate hit. For one week the OSHL is a buzzsaw of trades, rumors, anticipation, and finally...action!
Monday's Draft Lottery Night kicks things off. Ping pong balls are drawn from the OSHL DRAFT LOTTERY machine to determine initial order for the Thursday night Draft. But the time the first GM walks up to the mic to announce the 1st Overall Pick...things have shifted enormously. Armed with their Tournament Draft book, the GMS are giving a glimpse into each draftable players talents. From their they determine how they best need to line up their Draft Board to select the winning team.
While the GMS gruelling week of talks and trades would seemingly come to an end when the Draft concludes, that's not always the case. Player swaps are still open until Friday at 4 pm. Once the 4 pm deadline passes...teams are finally locked in for the actual tournament.
Three round-robin games of 15 minute run time halves await each team on Saturday. If you are lucky enough to qualify for the post-season (Top 6 through with 1,2 getting byes). You now have to embark on a guantlet of up to 3 more games, in a win or go home situation.
At the end of it all, a champion is crowned...and their names are engraved on the Cup forever. The winners also earn medals and can keep their jerseys as a memento of coming out victorious in one of the toughest tournaments to win.
